The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D Lalkantha to provide a fertilizer subsidy to farmers engaged in paddy cultivation for the 2026/27 Maha season.  The decision follows recommendations from the Director General of Agriculture and other relevant institutional consultations to support cultivators.  Under this programme, a fertilizer financial subsidy of Rs. 30,000 per hectare (up to a maximum of 2 hectares) will be provided for paddy cultivation, with a total allocation of approximately Rs. 16 billion earmarked for the initiative.
