
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, with cloudy conditions expected in these areas. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Several spells of showers may also occur in the North-western Province. Strong winds of around 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the North-central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-western provinces. The public has been advised to take precautions against damage caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected at several places in the sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30-40 kmph, increasing to 60-70 kmph at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Mannar via Kalpitiya and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. These sea areas will be rough or very rough at times, and naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into them until further notice. The sea areas from Batticaloa to Mannar via Trincomalee and Kankasanthurai, and from Chilaw to Matara via Colombo and Galle, will also be rough at times, with winds reaching 50-60 kmph. Wave heights may increase to around 2.5-3.0 metres in the sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
