
Three more suspects, including the alleged gunman, have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting at a birthday party in Kadirana, Wattala, Police said. The shooting occurred on the night of July 23 at a party held at a reception hall in the Palliyawatta area of Kadirana, when a group that arrived in a car opened fire at a man attending the event. The three suspects were arrested on Friday (07) following investigations conducted by officers of the Western Province North Crime Division with the assistance of the Police Special Task Force (STF). Police said those arrested include the alleged gunman, the driver of the car used in the shooting, and a person suspected of providing shelter and assistance to those involved in the crime. The suspects, aged 26, 35 and 36, are residents of Jinthupitiya, Matale and Kaduwela. Police investigations had earlier revealed that the shooting was allegedly intended to target a suspected drug trafficker known as “Kudu Roshan” of Mattakkuliya. However, the gunmen had reportedly missed their intended target, fatally shooting another person who was nearby. Four other suspects, including two women, had previously been arrested in connection with the killing. Further investigations are underway.
